Midsommar Sauna
Please join us at The Octagon Barn to celebrate Midsommar! We are offering 2 special sessions, both of which are family-friendly and the perfect way to spend time in community on the longest days of the year.
Friday, June 20 5-8 pm
Midsommar Eve: Elevated Sauna
We'll be joined by bodyworker and folk herbalist Rachael Gonzalez of FAMILIAR. They will be offering an elevated sauna session complete with fire cupping, sauna whisks, midsommarvatten (a steam with a special blend of 9 flowers), and an herbal infusion. You can also expect a bonfire and snacks from Wander Provisions.
Rachael is a licensed massage therapist, reiki master, folk herbalist and artist living and working in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They lead workshops, host events, write zines, and facilitate healing services under the monicker familiar. Please read more about Rachael here.
Saturday, June 21 5-8 pm
Midsommar: Solstice Celebration
Join us for a community sauna session complete with a bonfire, herbal infusions, and snacks from Wander Provisions. You can even make your own flower crown (midsommarkrans) with ranunculus from Briarwood Flowers and other wild blooms! Hannah will act as your sauna guide and will share both poetry and tales of their experience celebrating Midsommar on the coast of Latvia a few summers ago.
Please note: both sessions will be three hours long and open to a total of 18 people (not counting kiddos). There will be one 6-seat sauna for people to cycle in and out of, as well as 2 cold plunge tubs. The idea is that you can come and go as you please, arriving and leaving whenever it suits you!
Please feel free to bring your kids. Let them run around and be looked after by fellow sauna-goers while you enjoy the heat, and return the favor on your breaks! Older children are very welcome to spend time in the sauna and cold plunge.
Make sure you have arrive wearing whatever it is you feel comfortable getting sweaty/wet in. Bring a full water bottle and two towels as well as camping chairs or picnic blankets for sitting around the fire. If the spirit moves you, bring a poem or song to share with the group!
An email with more granular how to prepare details as well as a waiver to sign will be sent out a day or so prior to the event.
